Our next illustrated talk will be held at the Garrison Library, a wonderful venue for our artistic and informative Society.
The title of our next talk is THE DRAGONS CLAW, the signs and meaning in Chinese art.
A fascinating talk given by Lars Tharp, who is a regular lecturer and broadcaster and leads occasional tours to China.
In Chinese art nothing is what it appears to be: five bats are not just bats;bamboo not just bamboo;a peach not merely a peach, nor a vase just a vase. Chinese language allows the same word,or rather, sound, to several possible meanings, giving rise to verbal-visual puns which elude the non-Chinese speaker.
Of China’s many symbols, the most potent is The Dragon.
Find out more on this fascinating subject by coming to our illustrated talk.
