‘Gibraltar Lecture’ at Oxford Literary Festival
Minister for Tourism, Commercial Affairs, Public Transport and the Port Neil Costa
MP introduced the hugely successful inaugural ‘Gibraltar Lecture’ by African author
Ben Okri at the FT Weekend Oxford Literary Festival.
Mr Okri was one of the big names that took part in the Gibraltar Gibunco Literary
Festival in 2013.
The sold out event held on Saturday March 29th, was chaired by writer Paul Blezard
and it was followed by a lunch hosted by Minister Costa.
The packed auditorium included Minister for Justice Gilbert Licudi and several other
Gibraltar Government officials. Gibraltarian Students from Oxford Brookes University
also attended the lecture.
Mr Costa said he was delighted to be introducing Ben Okri’s lecture and restated his
commitment to cultural events of this nature.
He said: “This lecture was a taster for our own Gibunco Gibraltar Literary Festival
which will be held for the second time in November. Everyone agrees that the first
festival in 2013 was a huge success and we had an overwhelmingly encouraging and
positive response from the community. We are now working very hard to ensure that
we can attract a prestigious contingent of authors to meet and even surpass the
standards achieved last year.”
