Gibraltar Vault is a new company that aims to dramatically challenge the existing wine storage market. Their mission is to be the number one choice for fine wine storage worldwide. They have spent the past few years working closely with Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar to renovate and restore some of the tunnels, caverns and chambers within the Rock. Aside from wine storing, the site also houses a separate visitor centre, with educational and wine tasting facilities to help interpret Gibraltar’s 250 year-old history of wine and spirits trading.
The Gibraltar Experience is set within this labyrinth of tunnels. The stunning new multi-media attraction tells the history of the wine trade in Gibraltar, which has led to the creation of this incredible storage facility as well as the story of the tunnels themselves, which includes the Great Siege, Nelson and the Navy, Neanderthal skull discovery, Winston Churchill and spies! Its chambers are the height of cathedrals and the width of two 10-ton trucks. The Gibraltar Vault will be the largest, natural underground wine cellar in the world.
Once you’ve finished exploring the main attractions, visitors can remain within the caverns to taste a selection of the historic traded wines and spirits of Gibraltar. You’ll also sample the favourite wines of our famous visiting statesmen, including Winston Churchill’s preferred champagne.
The matured spirits from the Gibraltar Distillery Company have been made with traditional, proven maturation regimes from the 18th century, celebrating the heroes of the period. Matured in Blackstrap Cove, visitors can choose to sample these spirits by enjoying a cocktail within the vault.
