Spend your spring and summer in Gibraltar

When you are planning your spring or summer holiday, you will surely want to spend it somewhere that offers plenty of sun, sea and sand... somewhere that is rich in history, offers no shortage of shopping and other tourist opportunities and is home to truly welcoming people. So how could you choose anything less than a holiday in Gibraltar? Here at Visit Gibraltar (https://www.visitgibraltar.gi), we can think of a few more reasons to board that plane.

Fundamentally, when you book a Gibraltar holiday, you have a choice between seasonal events and the attractions that this part of the world offers all year round. Or, of course, you could mix the two, as most visitors do. However you take your holiday, we’re sure you’ll want to be back quickly.

Events to enjoy in Gibraltar this summer

Top events that we simply must tell you about if you are interested in Gibraltar travel include one that is going on right now: the Gibraltar Spring Festival 2013, which lasts until late June. That means that you still have the chance to join in with such events as the Arts & Crafts Market in Casemates Square on Saturday 25th May, the Celebration of Opera organised by the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society on Thursday 30th May and Miss Gibraltar 2013 in June.

Book your accommodation in Gibraltar now, and you could also be here in time for the 1st Gibraltar Fringe Festival, a feast of theatre performances, music, dance, children’s shows, busking and more, taking place at the Alameda Botanic Gardens from 20th to 23rd June. Don’t forget the Gibraltar Darts Trophy, either, which will be held from 28th June.

A whole host of permanent attractions

However, as great as such events are, anyone who has lived in or visited Gibraltar will tell you that so much of what makes the place so exciting in the here and now relates to its enchanting past, with the Rock of Gibraltar being the region’s landmark and home to a Moorish Castle and nature reserve. Oh, and you’ll also find some of the hundreds of Barbary macaques that are so synonymous with the territory.

The ancestors of those particular residents were around long before Gibraltar was captured by the British in the early 18th century, but despite this, a legend persists that for as long as they exist in the territory, it will remain under British rule. In any case, there are many more clues of a British heritage for those enjoying Gibraltar breaks, from the traditional red phone boxes and post boxes to the language that remains prevalent across the territory.

Still, as a visitor, it’s more likely that you will be too riveted by attractions and activities including shopping on Main Street, sports and recreation, bars and bistros and more. Simply peruse our wider website here at Visit Gibraltar (https://www.visitgibraltar.gi) to find out more about all of the opportunities of Gibraltar tourism.
