Gibraltar License Tour Guide

Becoming a Gibraltar Licensed Guide involves meeting specific requirements set by the Gibraltar Tourist Board. Here is a brief guide on how to pursue this path:

1. Understand the Role

A licensed guide in Gibraltar offers historical, cultural, and geographical insights to tourists. Guides need in-depth knowledge of Gibraltar's landmarks, history, wildlife, and local regulations.

2. Meet Basic Requirements

• Age: You must be at least 16 years old.
• Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English is essential, though additional languages can be advantageous.
• Documents Required: Gibraltar ID Card or contract with a local tour operator.

3. Complete Required Training

• Tourist Guide Course: Enrol in a key course offered by The Gibraltar Tourist Board.

Modules Include:

• History and geography of Gibraltar.
• Tour guide techniques.
• Barbary Macaques
• Health and safety regulations.
• Communication and customer service skills.
• Exams/Assessments: You are required to pass a written exam and oral assessment to demonstrate your guiding knowledge.

4. Apply for the Guide License

• Submit an Application: Apply to the Gibraltar Tourist Board.  Include documentation such as proof of training, identification, contract if applicable and any other required paperwork.
• Background Checks: You may need to undergo background checks or provide references.

5. Maintain Your License

• Renewal and Continuous Learning: Renew your license every two years and stay updated on new developments in tourism and Gibraltar’s heritage.
