This is the second Gibraltar Lecture, the first in 2014, was given by Ben Okri, the Booker Prize
winning novelist on the subject of 'Writing and the Adventures of the Mind'.
The prestigious FT Weekend Oxford Literary Festival has links with the Gibunco Gibraltar
International Literary Festival, the third edition of which will take place in November 2015.
The Oxford event has also recently announced that the distinguished and authoritative FT
Weekend will continue as its headline partner for an additional three years. Its other major
partners are the University of Oxford, the British Broadcasting Corporation and HSBC.
Minister Sacramento said: “I am delighted to have introduced the Gibraltar Lecture, sponsored by
Gibtelecom, at the FT Weekend Oxford Literary Festival. The Ministry for Tourism continues to
support the policy of events–led tourism and working on further developing this concept with the
Festival.”
“Attending the Festival has given me an opportunity to further cement links with such a prominent
event in the UK cultural calendar, an event which has been of key importance in the setting up of
our own Gibraltar literary festival that is going from strength to strength and acquiring a growing
international reputation with each successive edition. The Government is committed to delivering
2
events that provide not only cultural events of the highest level for all to enjoy but another reason
for those from afar to visit us and to enjoy these experiences. We are very grateful for the support
we receive from the Gibunco Group and all our other sponsors as we enter the third edition of the
festival in Gibraltar.”
