Alameda Botanic Gardens Tours


The spectacular Alameda Botanic Gardens were first opened to the public in 1816 and there are a number of commemorative busts and cannons dating back to the 19th century on display. For most visitors, however, it is the beauty of the plants and trees which make the Alameda such a magical place, with a combination of native and imported species.

At certain times of the year, various cultural events take place in the garden's open-air theatre, a beautifully landscaped area which is open for hire for events, private functions and weddings.

Not only are the gardens a peaceful haven away from the bustle of the city centre, it is also the location for Gibraltar's wildlife park which is home to a number of endangered animal species, animals confiscated from ships and unwanted unusual pets.

Hour long tours of the gardens led by a horticulturist will inform the visitor about the plants and history of this 200+ year old garden, and will visit areas that are off limits to the public, such as ‘The Dell'.
