EXCITING NEW TOURS FOR GIBRALTAR
Gibraltar has long been known as the last outpost of the Neanderthals, and a series of caves that have yielded ground breaking discoveries are at the centrepiece of this.
The Gorham’s Cave complex and Mediterranean Steps (a heritage and nature walk) have been put forward for nomination to UNESCO for World Heritage site status in July 2016, but tours will be available as from early 2016.
The “Gibraltar Neanderthal Caves and Environments” tours will complement the existing range of tours available to cruise and day trip visitors and also present the opportunity for overnight stay visitors to experience a completely new side to Gibraltar.
The tours will cover how the Neanderthals lived and the role that Gibraltar and its environment played in their survival. A visitor centre will feature the finds that the caves have yielded and local guides are being trained in order to deliver a world class experience.
