Nun’s Well is an ancient underground water cistern located at Europa Point. Throught to be over 700 years old, the structure consists of 16 pillars holding up 4 barrel vaults to create a chamber that fills with water as a result of run off from rainfall throughout the winter months. It is not known for certain why it is called ‘Nun’s Well’ although there are a number of theories for this. Descriptions of if from travellers to Gibraltar over the centuries give insight into its original format and uses and the occupation and use of the Europa Point Area over time.
